10 thousand 947 SIM seized for illegal use of VOIP: BTRC
Dhaka: State Mobile Operator Teletalk SIM has more than VoIP illegal calls. In this activity, illegal operators of 25 million daily calls are being made available to all operators.
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) chairman said on Monday (08 October) a press conference organized at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IB) auditorium. Jahurul Haque.
He said the use of biometric SIM in illegal VOIP activities is being used. Even then 100 percent can not be closed. We are trying to resist. We have the capability to prevent it. But criminals do not stop crime. The crime is happening all over the world. That is what I can control.
Jahurul Haque said that Teletalk SIM is being used more in the illegal VoIP activities. We want to know the reason for the operators. Then it was fined. Because, operators can not avoid liability.
BTRC chief said that the operation of seizure of illegal VoIP equipment during the operation from 9th September to 20th September, BTRC chief said 10 thousand 9 47 SIMs of different operators, 37 lakhs of equipment were recovered. Among them, Teletalk 5 thousand 75, Airtel-Robi's 3,800 97, Grameenphone 1,4,414, Banglalink's 4x6, Rankstatel's 120 and 15 SIM cards of Banglalion were seized.
He said that due to the BTRC operation, saving of more than Tk. 50 crore is being saved every year for international call sharing. And from now on we will seize illegal VOIP and will also issue money laundering cases against the accused.
Responding to the queries of journalists, Zahurul Haque said that operators have to take responsibility. They will not be released from liability. In many cases, VoIP operations are being run in the name of corporate office. They will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken
BTRC officials including representatives of mobile operators were present at the press conference.
