The information ministry will give the list of rumors to the BTRC

Dhaka: 'Rumor Monitoring Cell' constituted by the Information Ministry to request the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to block the information as well as informing the people about the rumor of the incident through law enforcement agencies.

State Information Minister Tarana Halim told reporters at an inter-ministerial meeting on the implementation and coordination of the cell's activities in the Ministry of Information Ministry on Tuesday (9th October).

The State Minister said the process of cell work has been constituted for the nine-member cell with the officials of the Information Department to take effective steps to speed up the spread of social media.

Tarana Halim said that information will be notified to the information department through different means.

The State Minister said about the verification process, the local police officer or OC will visit the venue for the rumors that spread on grassroots level, inform us that it is not rumor or rumor. If there is no rumor, we will not have any interaction there. I will inform the media about the rumor, that it is rumor. Our work will end here.

Tana Halim said that the request will be sent to the different departments and intelligence agencies under the Ministry of Home Affairs for supply of information.

After receiving the information, I will send a list of information to the BTRC to take the next step, for content blocking, content filtering. "

Tarana Halim said that Ministry of Information, ICT Division, Postal and Telecommunication Department, Home Ministry, Intelligence, Counter Terrorism Unit will all work together. Hopefully, we will start the activity within this month.

A high level committee will be constituted for training and monitoring of cell personnel.

Tarana Halim said, social media becomes a factory to spread rumor. Almost three hundred pages (Jamaat-BNP) are active, they are constantly developing content and anti-government campaign. Various units of law enforcement agencies, Access to Information (A2I) programs are working directly against Rumor. Information ministries need to be involved. We will provide real information. But the Ministry of Information will not promote any content developments or anything. It is not our job to respond to criticism and to see who is trolling, not policing. We just want to identify the rumor and want to inform the public about it quickly.

Tarana Halim said, many times people believe in online rumors. The press release will be sent to the media for the use of social media in online or on Facebook as a source.

Ministry of Home Affairs, Security and Public Security Department, Law and Justice Department, Postal, Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology, Information Ministry, Intelligence, National Board of Revenue, Police, ICT Division, BTCL, BTRC, A2I, RAB were present in the meeting.
